This Storm Season, we thought we would compile a list of tips to help you protect your home.

Make sure that before you head to the beach, your home is protected against wild weather.

  • Before you leave home, make sure all windows and doors are locked.
  • Secure any loose items outside. (furniture, dog kennels, plant pots
  • Ensure your roof, gutters and down pipes are clean
  • Have a supply of plastic shopping bags on hand to use as sandbags for emergency storm water diversion.

Always be prepared for the unexpected.

  • Pack an emergency kit in case of blackouts or if you need to make a quick escape.
  • We suggest you pack the following:
  • List of emergency contacts.
  • Torch and radio with spare batteries.
  • Candles with waterproof matches or gas lantern.
  • Sturdy shoes and rubber gloves.
  • Bag of clothes.
  • Waterproof bag for valuables and certificates.
  • First aid kit with essential medications.
  • Fresh water and long life foods.
  • Car charger for your mobile.

Luckily, we have a natural alternative using household pantry items, to help to attack your grout problem.

Baking soda

Baking soda is a wonder product. It is non-toxic, cheap, and versatile. You can literally use it on almost anything in your house. Perfect for upholstery, smells, to sparkly pots and pans.

Vinegar

comes in at a close second. Some people might be put off by the smell, but the good news is you can get odourless varieties. White vinegar is a great disinfectant and can be used is the dishwasher for sparkly glasses.

Ingredients

1/2 cup of baking soda,
7 cups of warm water,
1/4 cup white vinegar.
1/3 cup lemon juice

Method

1. Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle.
2. Spray solution onto grout.
3. Let it sit for 5 minutes
4. Scrub it off!
